Welcome back to a new school year! We at the HWDSB hope you had a wonderful summer with your family and friends.
It is our hope that you can enjoy education updates through the Flamborough E-News as well as through your school and local newspaper. Parental involvement and engagement in education are very important to us and we invite you to be part of the decision making process.
Last year saw the formation of the Waterdown Education (WE) Group and together we were able to formulate the Preferred Vision of education in Waterdown. This vision included 4 new elementary schools (New A.A. Greenleaf, Upcountry Estates, New Guy Brown and eventually Waterdown South) as well as an immediate high school addition and eventual campus site. Rest assured that this vision is now with the Ministry of Education for funding approval of growth area schools and Board staff are actively pursuing potential school sites. We are expecting to hear back from the Ministry by the end of October about all of our growth area schools across Hamilton.
Trustees will be updated on a lot of summer issues over the next few weeks so as the information becomes public I will endeavour to keep you informed as we move through the school year.
I can be reached at karen.turkstra@hwdsb.on.ca or 905-515-8726. For our students!!

Police Beat in Flamborough Review This Week
When my husband and I first moved to Waterdown 12 years ago, the "Police Beat" section in the Flamborough Review was less than a half page in length, with maybe 10 or so incidents.
Increasingly I find that this section of the paper gets longer and longer. This week there were over 30 incidents! Most of them involved youths. Vandalism, break-ins and theft seem the common theme. Is it that young people have nothing better to do at night than raise havoc among our community? Is there home life in shatters? Do they have that much disrespect for others?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this! Email me at mfitzgerald@remaxescarpment.com and I will post your comments!

New Portable At Guy B Brown School!
A new portable has been delivered to the Guy B. Brown school. As you are probably aware, the portable that was delivered over the summer was destroyed by arsonists.
The new portable should be ready for use in the next week or so. Let's hope this one lasts!
